It was ‘on your marks, get set, go’ in the Abbey Gardens as organisers of The Tour of Britain officially announced that the route of the penultimate stage of the 2010 tour would begin in Suffolk and end in Essex, kicking off from Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds on Friday 17th September.

The route of ‘Stage 7’ will begin in Bury St Edmunds, with riders then going through towns and villages such as Haverhill, Clare, Cavendish, Long Melford, Lavenham, and Sudbury, before the race enters Essex in advance of the finish in Colchester.

Tour of Britain representatives and local sponsors and businesses joined together for the launch giving local government and business representatives an opportunity to learn more about Tour of Britain and other cycling-related activities across the county. In the marquee, guests browsed stands and took part in activities from Cycle Suffolk, Suffolk County Council Road Safety and West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon among others. Attendees listened to speeches from organisers and partners and were treated to a short film showing some of the towns the riders will go through.
Music was provided by ‘Dale and Zach’, West Suffolk College National Diploma Music students and members of band Soul Atom who played an acoustic set. Soul Atom will be playing gigs throughout the summer and autumn.

Tour of Britain not only brings a prestigious sporting event to Bury St Edmunds but also raises awareness of cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly way to travel.
