Studying in Bury St Edmunds

West Suffolk College is situated in the historic and attractive market town of Bury St Edmunds.  Bury St Edmunds is a prosperous and historic market town serving a large rural area in the heart of East Anglia which is rapidly expanding.

The town’s population stands at around 35,000 and though this is increasing, the town has managed to maintain its historic shape and character whilst still providing up to the minute facilities.

Bury St Edmunds is a town to walk in with many beautiful buildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.   A central feature of the town is the Abbey gardens and ruins which are a pleasant place to stroll at any time of year.  Other buildings of interest include Moyse’s Hall (a Norman building built in 1140), the Nutshell (a pub reputed to be the smallest in England) and the Theatre Royal, one of the finest Regency theatres in the country which has been recently refurbished.

Bury St Edmunds has many leisure activities to offer, as well as the aforementioned theatre, there are two cinemas, a sports and leisure centre, ten pin bowling, tennis, squash and golf clubs, a once-monthly comedy club and numerous live music venues.  In recent years, Bury has also become renowned for its wide range of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops.
