ILM Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management

 

The Certificate in First Line Management aims to:

  • give practising and potential supervisors and first line managers the foundation for their formal development.
  • assist participants to gain the knowledge required by a first line manager and to develop the skills required for the role
  • gives the participant the opportunity to develop a range of management skills to enable them to effectively manage their team.

This programme is highly practical, yet offers comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities of the first line manager.

Employers have identified many benefits arising as a result of their managers undertaking the ILM management qualifications and these include:

Better performance and productivity, increased motivation, reductions in absenteeism and accidents, enhances organisational image and increased creditability.


Designed for:

The First Line Manager award is designed for those who have responsibility for a number of teams or who have a wider span of management responsibility which might include responsibility for staff recruitment, for budgets, for performance management or for disciplinary issues.

Course Content

The Certificate in First Line Management comprises of a minimum of 20 learning credits within the new Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 120 guided learning hours.

The course modules include:-

Problem Solving and Decision Making Introduction to Leadership
Building the Team Managing Performance
Understanding Change in the Workplace Planning Change in the Workplace
Achieving Objective through Time Management               Managing Conflict in the Workplace
Motivating to perform in the Workplace               Obtaining Information for Effective Management
Effective Meetings for Managers Understanding the Communication Process

Giving Briefings and Making Presentations

 

 

Assessment

The qualification is assessed by the completion of a change management project, work based assignments, case studies, reflective reviews and a presentation.

Duration

The course is delivered via a series of 20 weekly one-day tutored workshops.  Each workshop commences at 9.30 am and finishes at 4.30 pm with a break for lunch.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be practising or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the qualification.  All potential candidates will need to complete an informal interview to ensure the qualification meets their development needs.

Progression

Candidates may progress to the ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Management following successful completion of ILM Certificate in First Line Management although progression would be dependent upon the scope of their job roles and would be subject to an informal interview.
