ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management


The ILM Level 5 qualifications in management have been specially designed to give practising and aspiring middle/senior managers a comprehensive understanding of the complex nature of operational and strategic management. There are 3 graduated qualifications at this level, the Award, Certificate and Diploma. The Award in Management is the foundation qualification comprising of three discrete units Understanding the Management Role, Leading Teams and Managing Stress and Conflict in Organisation.  The Certificate builds on and broadens the areas covered in the Award in a flexible and practical way.  It explores ‘Managing Improvement’ both in terms of organisational and personal development, whilst ‘Developing the Reflective Manager’ concentrates on the analysis of personal strengths and weaknesses and how to work through problems using creative techniques.  The crucial skill of ‘Making a Financial Case’ is also explored in the fourth mandatory unit.

Designed for:

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management is designed for middle-senior manager who need to advance their management competencies to a more strategic level.

 

Course Content

The Level 5 Certificate in Management comprises of a minimum of 26 learning credits at Level 5 within the new Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 88 guided learning hours.

The course comprises of nine modules which include:-

Understanding the Management Role   Making a Financial Case
Managing Stress and Conflict in Organisations Managing Improvement
Developing and Leading Teams to achieve Organisational Goals and Objectives Becoming an Effective Leader
Developing Critical Thinking  

 

Assessment

The qualification is assessed by a combination of a work based assignment together with an Improvement Report and a combination of reflective reviews, case studies, written reports and an oral presentation.  These are submitted throughout the course to a predetermined timetable established with the tutor at the beginning of the course.

 

Duration and Delivery

The course is delivered via a series of 20 one day tutored weekly workshops and includes a mixture of lectures, group discussions, case studies and one to one tutorials. Each workshop commences at 9.30am and finishes at 4.30pm.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be or aspiring to be in a middle management role within which they have the opportunity to influence organisational strategies.  They should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the qualification.   All potential candidates will need to complete an informal interview to ensure the qualification meets their development needs.

Progression

Delegates wishing to extend their performance further can choose to continue their studies and complete the Level 5 Diploma in Management. Alternatively, they may progress directly to a Level 7 Management qualification.  The ILM offers a Level 7 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Executive Management or the Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Management.
