ILM Level 5 Award in Management


The ILM Level 5 qualifications in management have been specially designed to give practising and aspiring middle/senior managers a comprehensive understanding of the complex nature of operational and strategic management. There are 3 graduated qualifications at this level, the Award, Certificate and Diploma. The Award in Management is the foundation qualification.  It is a concise programme aimed at extending management skills and knowledge.  The mandatory unit examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance. The final element of the unit explores the evaluation of personal development opportunities.

The ILM Level 5 Award in Management is designed for middle-senior manager who need to advance their management competencies to a more strategic level.

Course Content

The Level 5 Award in Management comprises of a minimum of 10 learning credits at Level 5 within the new Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 31 guided learning hours.

The course comprises of three modules which include:-

  • Understanding the Management Role
  • Managing Stress and Conflict in Organisations
  • Developing and Leading Teams to achieve Organisational Goals and Objectives

Assessment

The qualification is assessed by a combination of a work based assignment and a combination of reflective reviews, case studies and written reports.  These are submitted throughout the course to a predetermined timetable established with the tutor at the beginning of the course.

Duration and Delivery

The course is delivered via a series of 9 one day tutored weekly workshops and includes a mixture of lectures, group discussions, case studies and one to one tutorials.  Each workshop commences at 9.30 am and finishes at 4.30 pm.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be or aspiring to be in a middle management role within which they have the opportunity to influence organisational strategies.  They should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the qualification.   All potential candidates will need to complete an informal interview to ensure the qualification meets their development needs.

Progression

Delegates wishing to extend their performance further can choose to continue their studies and complete the Level 5 Certificate or Diploma in Management. Depending on when during the year the Award is started, there may be a break in training between finishing the Award and re-commencing training for the Certificate.
