ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management

The Award in First Line Management, a short, sharply focused qualification, introducing the range of knowledge and transferable skills needed to manage in today’s rapidly changing business environment. Employers have identified many benefits arising as a result of their managers undertaking the ILM management qualifications and these include: Better performance and productivity, increased motivation, reductions in absenteeism and accidents, enhances organisational image and increased creditability.
The First Line Manager award is designed for those who have responsibility for a number of teams or who have a wider span of management responsibility which might include responsibility for staff recruitment, for budgets, for performance management or for disciplinary issues. Course Content The Award in First Line Management comprises of a minimum of 5 learning credits within the new Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) and candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 34 guided learning hours. The course modules include:-
Assessment The qualification is assessed by the completion of work based assignments, case studies and reflective reviews. Duration The course is delivered via a series of 6 weekly one-day tutored workshops. Each workshop commences at 9.30 am and finishes at 4.30 pm with a break for lunch. Entry Requirement There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be practising or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the qualification. All potential candidates will need to complete an informal interview to ensure the qualification meets their development needs. Progression Candidates may choose to study only the Award, and return to their workplace to consolidate their learning, but in achieving the Award they will also have built up credits which can be put towards progression onto the Certificate in First Line Management, either immediately or at a later date.
