Work Based Learning Mentoring

West Suffolk College are pleased to announce they now have a dedicated Work Based Learning Mentor, who can support you with any needs you might have. Everything you talk about with your mentor will be confidential and nothing will be passed on unless you want it to be.

What is mentoring?

A mentor is there to make sure you get the advice and support you need as an Apprentice. It may be that you need help organising your work or prioritising your time. You may have things going on in your personal life that you find hard to deal with and need someone to talk to. A mentor is not there to tell you what to do, but support you in the choices you want to make.

Where?

A place that suits you. It might be...

  • At College
  • At work
  • At a Local Learning Centre
  • A public place where you feel comfortable (Cafe, library, etc)

When?

A time that suits you and the mentor.

How Long?

This will be agreed when you first meet. It can be for as long as you need.

What?

You can talk about anything. It could be personal issues, your job, training or College work.

The mentor will:

  • Listen to you
  • Support you
  • Encourage you
  • Give as much help and advice as possible

Ground Rules

There are some ground that we would like you to remember:

  • If you can't make an appointment or are going to be late, please let the mentor know in good time
  • Be as open and honest as you can be. The mentor is on your side and there to help you.
  • The mentor will not always have an answer to your questions straight away, but will endeavour to find out for you.
  • The mentor will always respect you and your views, please do the same.
