
Engineering apprenticeships cover a wide range of engineering practices and training matches the industries needs for semi-skilled and skilled workers across a range of diverse areas. The Engineering sector employs a vast number of people in the UK and there are approximately 800,000 engineers working in areas from aeronautical to electronic to mechanical engineering.

West Suffolk College work with many local Engineering employers, including British Sugar, Delstar, Premier Foods and Port of Felixtowe.
Course Aims:
To provide the skills and qualifications needed for individuals to work effectively as an Engineering in their chosen field.

Course Content:
All Apprentices and Advanced Apprentices will work towards a framework that is tailored depending on the nature of the work and the employer requirements.
Apprentices will complete the performing Engineering Operations to Level 2 as a grounding in the basic skills and practices for anyone in the engineer sector, an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in the relevant Engineering field (as listed above), Employer Rights and Responsibilities, an occupationally relevant Technical Certificate and key skills in Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning and Performance.
The duration of the Apprenticeship is 2 years and for the Advanced Apprenticeship is 3 and a half years.
Assessment:
The delivery of the Engineering Framework is specific to the individual and will be agreed prior to the commencement of training. It can range from day release, block release and in some cases delivered fully in the workplace. This is combined with continual assessment in the workplace.
Progression:
Foundation Degrees, supervisory and management roles.
