What We Do

Numeracy and Literacy - Click Here for Printable Information

The West Suffolk College Skills for Life Department offers National Tests in Numeracy and Literacy - providing adults the opportunity to achieve qualifications up to GCSE equivalent, for the following reasons:

  • Parents wanting to help their children with homework
  • People needing a qualification to gain entry to higher level training courses
  • To improve a C.V
  • To update an old school certificate
  • To improve employability skills
  • To prove to yourself that you can achieve maths and English qualifications - at any time of life

How it works

We run our courses in the following format:

  1. Initial Assessment - an opportunity to find out what you know in each subject.
  2. Individual Learning Plan - together with your tutor you will agree on the work needed to achieve your qualification.
  3. We will work with you to set some SMART targets, click here for more information.
  4. Preparation for National Test - using a range of paper and computer based practice tests we will make sure you are ready for your final assessment.
  5. Achievement of qualification - by completing either a paper or computer based test you will be awarded a certificate. You will only be entered for a test when you are ready - there is no pressure!

Resources

We use a number of resources, ranging from paperbased worksheets - internet based exercises - computer based assessments.
